Wednesday, 22 September 2010, is world carfree day or as it’s known here in Lake County, “The judge took away my driver’s license day” or “My car won’t start day.” Or–as it’s known throughout the rest of the world–Wednesday. If you are interested in joining they have a World Carfree Day Facebook page.
World carfree day should not be confused with “My car’s been impounded day,” which, everyone knows, is the 2nd of January.
What do you think? Is it worthwhile or just another Earth Hour?

*smug expression* It’s Carfree Day for me six days a week.
(I still like to know the little old Micra is sitting there, should I need it.)
Indeed. Here in the US transportation planning revolves around cars. I ran across a blog showing dumb planning decisions, and I remember one picture of a bus stop in between lanes at a corner. I can see you zipping about town in a Micra like this: http://upload.moldova.org/auto/Nissan/Nissan_Micra_Barbie_Car.jpg
Lol. My car is fifteen years old, like this one but grey: http://tinyurl.com/34o365h and I don’t so much zip as pootle.
I don’t like the new Micra nearly as much.
My Volvo 850 is 15 years old. It’s zip has been zapped. I still love it though.
Ah. Um. I took two buses and trains today; and will take a bus and two trains on Thursday (I admit it, there may be a late night taxi ride at the end of the day). For car free day though, I’m afraid I was planning to drive to the office…
May I claim some kind of time zone confusion exemption?

Hi K,
It’s not up to me to give dispensa…ah what the heck. It’s fine with me. Say ten “hail taxis” and drink a pint.
Cheers,
Norm
