Weekend Postcard: Carquinez Strait

This weekend’s postcard is from Benicia, California’s third capital (1853-1854).

This Super Bowl Sunday is warm and sunny in California. The rest of the country may be seeing snow, ice, and winter. It’s 75F as I post this. Last Sunday poured rain. This Sunday pours sunshine. Ah, California.

The picture was taken from the north side of the Carquinez Strait where Benicia sits.

    1. That would be old and mad “frog sticker” Smith. He comes out after dark, scrapes the barnacles off the pilings under his front porch, and makes them into a stew using the seawater from the bay…

No, no one lives there, as far as I am aware. Given that this is the San Francisco Bay area (Well at the north end, it’s really San Pablo Bay technically. The southern portion of the “wings” of water that make up the bay is really San Francisco Bay) where housing is pricey (I was near a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 3400 sq ft house–at the waters’ edge–that was asking $1.2 million), anything is possible and someone might live there.

We here in California (some of the state can get very cold) are blessed with a Mediterranean climate. Much of the US right now has a LOT of snow. Heck, Dallas, Texas got snow this month.

Come on over, Lexi, the weather’s fine.

  1. Benecia didn’t get a long run at being capital then! Never mind, much nicer to just take a seat by the water’s edge and watch the world float by. Lovely view.
